The company grew rapidly. The investors acknowledged Christian Schmiegelow’s hard work and elected him member of the Board of Directors in 1899.
In 1905, TORM reached an important milestone when the company was listed on the Copenhagen Stock Exchange. This was also the year when Captain Ditlev TORM, together with 112 colleagues from the shipping industry, formed what is now known as BIMCO (the Baltic and International Maritime Council), an international shipping owner’s organisation. Captain TORM died in November 1907. This led to a number of changes in the company leadership with Christen Kraemer taking over as manager. Kraemer’s father resigned from the Board when his son was appointed manager, as he believed it unsuitable to be on the Board when a close family member held a leading position in the company.
