A few years after World War I ended, the TORM fleet numbered 13 ships. By 1924, the fleet numbered 16.
During this decade the company moved into new business areas such as the transport of fruit from the Middle East to Great Britain. A refrigerated ship was ordered to meet these needs and the first new-built ship featuring electric lights joined the TORM fleet in 1929.
The same year the company celebrated its 40th anniversary, which was marked with higher profits and pay.
The Wall Street crack in October 1929 resulted in a drastic fall in freight rates and the shipping industry entered another lull.
