The Great Depression of the 1930s was a tough time for the shipping industry. However, with sound economic management, TORM maintained a healthy profit margin.
TORM acquired its first motorized ship, the “M/S Alameda” from the Nakskov Shipyards in 1933. Motorised ships were
ideal for long-distance route and tramp shipping and allowed the company to focus on this new area.
The company’s 50th anniversary was celebrated with a party and bonuses.
