History

1959-1969

Design and engineering developments in the shipbuilding industry meant better conditions for TORM’s crewmembers. In 1959, the refrigerated cargo vessel “Yugala”, which featured separate chambers for all crewmembers and air conditioning, was delivered from the Helsingør Shipyards.

In 1963, TORM entered the bulk freight market and ordered two bulk carriers – the first shipbuilding order in the company’s history not paid for in cash. That same year, the “Thyra TORM” was delivered from Nakskov Shipyards. Its special feature was a remote controlled motor that could be controlled from the bridge.
