In 2009, TORM was the first Danish shipping company to sign the UN Global Compact and commit to its principles regarding health, safety, labor rights, environmental protection, and anti-corruption. TORM continues to act on this commitment. In keeping with the UN’s Sustainable Development Agenda, introduced in 2015, TORM places particular importance on sustainable development goals (SDG) 13, Climate Action, and 4, Quality Education.
Over the years, TORM has outperformed its set emissions targets. Therefore, TORM is pushing fast forward on our environmental efforts and will reduce our carbon intensity by 40% by 2025 – instead of by 2030. Our decarbonization strategies and technologies produce commercial benefits and synergies, which are closely connected and integrated One TORM platform enables us to capture.
The majority of our workforce are seafarers, and therefore healthy and safe conditions on board our vessels are crucial. The One TORM Safety Culture defines clear standards and metrics to drive continual safety improvement. As the first Danish shipping company to sign the UN Global Compact, TORM’s commitment to safety is well-documented.
People and culture play an essential role in TORM, and it is important for TORM to develop employees within their potential, as well as support their families and communities. TORM is a long-standing supporter of maritime education in India and in the Philippines, and it is therefore natural for TORM to support SDG 4 Quality Education.
